Well that was a wild ride! The Bad Moons army was posted on Ebay and had over 37,400 views of the auction, with well over 110 watchers. And then it didn’t sell…. I re-listed the army and then received several offers. I’m pleased to announce that the army has been sold to a fine gentleman in Ohio- congratulations and great gaming!
With that finished, I’m going to be moving onto some other hobby projects that have been nagging at me- expect some pictures over the holidays! Among some of the new upcoming minis are Tyranids (the new codex looks too interesting to pass up!) as well as my Inquisitorial and Adeptus Mechanicus figures!

Here is the final complete army! This project took about a year and a half to build and paint. All in all a fun, huge undertaking!
(Click on the picture for a larger version)

As with all of my previous armies, I’m really into the process of building, painting, then playing with them for a period. After that, I move onto painting new stuff. As such, this army is now FOR SALE. That’s right, it’s for sale.
The entire army pictured here is for sale (with the exception of 6 extra meganobs which were custom jobs and have been repainted to join a speed freaks army). The army is APOCALYPSE SIZE, approximately 3600 points.
The retail value of all of the elements alone is worth $1800 (including Forge World, Bits, Lots of kits for bashing, as well as custom Battlefoam trays, which are included).
This army has won many painting awards, and garnered a lot of attention online, on Warseer.com, The Waaagh, Cool Mini or Not, Dakka Dakka, and many others.
It can be yours for $3600. Serious Inquiries only, please. Email me at Jonathan@JonathanHartman.net.

Ork players tend to be split on elite choices. There are a lot of good choices, so it can be hard to decide. Lootas are a solid choice, and can potentially pour out a lot of high strength fire. They can also be inconsistent, like many ork units.
I’ve found that the trick to using them it to not expect too much from them. They can be counted on to tear apart squadrons of light vehicles, as well as very light troops. They can also be handy for inflicting more wounds on tougher units, forcing them to make some more saves.

These are my two warboss models for my army. I enjoyed building the first one so much that I decided to build a second one, as well.

Here’s the thing: I’m obssessed with MegaNobs. I absolutely love fielding them in Ork Armies. They’re crazy tough, and they provide a lot of modeling opportunities to make them all unique. If you field the Mad Dok Grotsnik you can give all of your MegaNobs invulnerable saves, making them a real menace and giving them lasting power. Finally, they can all take kombi-skorchas, which are practically manditory. Even with one shot, they can soften up tough hand to hand enemies before a fight. Additionally, meganobs can sometimes break and flee. The skorchas provide a way to keep enemy units more than 6″ away from you, allowing the meganobs to regroup the next turn. Very, very useful.

Here are two more of the trukk for my Bad Moons Army. As much as I like the new GW Trukk Kit, conceptually, I looked at the kit more as a starting point. I wanted to have every vehicle in my army converted, so they were similar, but all unique. This first trukk has treads from a battlewagon kit, as well as a front ram from that kit. Other parts include a Leman Russ exhaust, plasticcard, Imperial Guard dozer blades as trukk sidewalls, and Stompa bits.

The second trukk is a real kitbash. The main drivers cab is the front section from a Land Raider kit. The driver sits in the space normally reserved for assault cannons. I built the sides from plastic card. The front reinforced ram is a bit from the Stompa kit. (Honestly, it’s worth buying a Stompa just for all of the bits you can use from it. Even if you never field a stompa) The trukk bed floor is the interior floor from a Land Raider kit, as well.

Here is my assorted collection of Ork Nobs. These are built from a combination of Assault on Black Reach Nobs, the regular Nobs box set, as well bits from the Fantasy Black Orcs box set. I wanted all of them to look heavily armoured and ready to fight!

Shoota Boys Mob- I’m actually a big fan of Shoota Boys. Most people go for the traditional Slugga & Choppa, which has its place too. Shoota Boys still get 2 attacks, however, which is pretty solid. Plus they can soften up a target, then assault it with 3 attacks on the charge. with a threat range of 24″ (6″ move +18″ range) they can pour a ton of fire out. Yes, it doesn’t hit great, when compared to Marines, but consider that 30 shoota boys will fire 60 shots, and 20 will hit on average. Not bad at all, especially since it’s strength 4.

This is my second looted wagon, built from a Leman Russ tank kit. I liked the idea of an open area on top of the turret for spotters. It also seemed like only orks would have exposed ammunition that loads into the turret. Give it a suped up engine, and it was good to go. Note that it has been named by it’s krew, “Tuff Enuff!”

This is one of my Looted Wagons for the army. Looted wagons kind of get the short end of the stick in the current Ork Codex. They can apply some pressure on enemies, especially marines, with their AP3 boomguns, but at the same time, they have paper thin armour. I’ve found they are best kept as cheap as possible, points-wise. Even though they are the toughest ork unit out there, there are so many possibilities on how to model them. It was a lot of fun to convert! It’s parts are as follows:
- Rhino Hull
- Ork Battlewagon Turret
- Ogre Kingdoms Standard
- Plasticard
- Ammo Grot
- Assorted bits, including Platformer Chemical Plant pieces and a plate from a Baneblade kit for the door

I recently got a moment free to take pictures of the entire Bad Moons army. It’s taken a little while, but I’ll be posting all of the remaining pictures very soon. This has been a great project, one that has provided me with hours and hours of fun considering, planning, building, converting, and painting. When I initially started this, I never thought the army would be as large as it is today. But it was just so much fun that I never stopped.
As fun as it has been, after these I am going to change things up a bit and focus on some skirmish gaming. Additionally, I’ve been eager to build some new games boards ever since I moved out to California. Those projects will show up in the future here as well.
Continuing the Bad Moons thread, here is the second squad of Trukk Boys, as well as their Trukk:

I typically field my Mad Dok with a unit of Burna Boyz. I figure they’re an elite choice, so they can’t hold onto objectives, so i don’t really look at the whole “crazy- have to attack everything” as a negative. Plus, with the Dok, they benefit from being Fearless and Feel No Pain. My Burna boys just became the statistical equivalent of marines with power weapons. Good stuff.
Of course, Burnas don’t get their own trukks. So they have to “steal” them from a unit of regular boys, or get a dedicated heavy support lotted wagon. I went with the looted wagon with a Skorcha, Reinforced Ram, and Open Topped. It’s fast enough (not a trukk, but that’s ok), gives me a transport that anyone can use later in the game, and it has a heavy flamer. Again…. good stuff. You really can’t have enough flame templates in 5th edition 40k.
Conversion wise, it is an Imperial Guard Hellhound, with front plates from a Stompa, a Skorcha from a Killer Kan, some old Bad Moons icons, plastic card, and resin track links from Iron Dog Studios.
